The US is becoming more polarized as both parties go to greater extremes to counteract their political rival. This has resulted in reactionary policies from both sides instead of the proactive measures urgently needed to prepare for a new technologic era. Ironically politicians have to appeal to moderates (i.e. the silent majority) to win an election, something that is becoming increasingly difficult as they swing to greater extremes.
Essentially there’s a political vacuum at the center that begs to be filled by a new party, capable of addressing the concerns of underserved moderates. Founding such a party requires a proven disruptor – preferably someone with exceptionally deep pockets and a network of billionaire investors.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.” ~ Elon Musk/X
Help from the Opposition
Fortunately the existing parties focus on attacking their political rivals, a fairly crude tactic to mobilize their base. However, if they turn their guns on the America Party this will draw attention to the party’s existence, and establish its credibility as a viable alternative for moderates. Here’s a good example from the president himself: -
“He [Elon] even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States… The one thing Third Parties are good for are the creation of complete and Total DISRUPTION AND CHAOS…” ~ Donald Trump/Truth Social
Many moderates follow Trump for a variety of reasons i.e. investors, planners, commercial leaders, students or anyone interested in politics. Most are aware of Elon’s ability to disrupt the status quo and probably intrigued by this possibility to break the political deadlock.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.” ~ Elon Musk/X
So far the Democrats have chosen not to give the America Party the oxygen of publicity, in stark contrast to President Trump. However he is aware the Republicans could lose their majority in one or both houses of congress, hence a coalition with the America Party could be beneficial. The Democrats tend to be more moderate, hence they could lose more seats to the America Party in the 2026 midterms, which suggests the Republican’s might give this new party a pass in the short-term.
How it would Work
“One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts. Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people.” ~ Elon Musk/X
Many strong candidates are excluded in some districts in favor of more party aligned people, whose vote can be relied on once elected. If numerous strong candidates are fielded, accompanied by adequate campaign funding, the America Party should score sufficient seats to swing the vote in one or both houses. While the existing parties must spread their resources across all districts, the America Party could focus their effort on relatively few areas, typically those who possess more moderate demographics.
Some defections are also likely from both parties, to illustrate: moderate Republican Thomas Massie must consider his options now he faces a fierce primary contest in 2026. In addition, some state governors could align with the new party, if they feel their state has been overlooked by federal government. That introduces the intriguing possibility these governors could appoint “independents” to serve in congress, if for any reason a seat is vacated after the 2026 midterm elections.
Party Leadership
Realistically Elon Musk shouldn’t be the leader of the America Party for a number of reasons: -
1. Elon is too controversial, even among moderates.
2. The America Party must be more than Elon, so appointing someone else as leader would give it more breadth and credibility.
3. Politicians need to connect with their audience emotionally, something Elon struggles with because he suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome. Essentially his inhuman focus makes him a poor politician.
Of course there’s a cornucopia of candidates to fill the role of party leader, who could resonate with Elon’s cause: -
Jim Bridenstine – successfully elected three times to the House of Representatives, a charismatic and practical leader. Previous head of NASA, which technically made him Elon’s boss, however, he’s a 9 year veteran of the Navy so should cope if their roles were reversed.
Pete Buttigieg – 8 year veteran of naval intelligence, former mayor of South Bend Indiana and Secretary of Transportation. Charismatic, passionate and clear spoken, can win any debate.
Jared Isaacman – self made man and born leader, selected to become head of NASA until the White House rescinded his nomination. Has a good working relationship with Elon and takes an action direct approach to solving problems.
“I wouldn't be shocked if maybe I do stick around in politics… I do like helping and trying to bring people together and I love a good challenge.” ~ Jared Isaacman/Everyday Astronaut
Assuming the new party makes a good showing in the 2026 mid-terms, they might consider a run for president in 2028.
“Backing a candidate for president is not out of the question, but the focus for the next 12 months is on the House and the Senate.” ~ Elon Musk/X
Elon is accomplished at achieving ambitious projects, so it seems unwise to bet against him. Pete Buttigieg managed to defeat Joe Biden in the first round of the 2024 primary election, so anything is possible with the right candidate.
Big Picture
Progressive countries like China activity support their future industries, like solar, electric vehicles and AI. Conversely the US actively impedes the industries that are vital to its future economy, i.e. space, automated vehicles, sustainable energy and AI. It does this through over-regulation, subsidizing competing industries and political pillorying; in order to defend the status quo.
If the America Party gain sufficient seats to decide the vote on new legislation...the majority party must accommodate them to pass anything through congress, e.g: -
Policy shift – towards supporting emerging industries.
Cabinet seat – the America Party is given a place in the cabinet, such as secretary of transportation.
Fiscal prudence – they must moderate spending, and ensure adequate taxation to control the deficit.
Essentially having a place at the table would allow the America Party to guide the US through this time of transition. Potentially the US could have enormous growth in key emerging industries, vaulting them far beyond any rival, possibly for centuries.
In Conclusion
Politicians will give the America Party the oxygen of publicity it needs, and the more extreme their rhetoric, the more appealing a centrist party will appear to moderate voters.
Great nations and empires tend to falter when they err to extremes (e.g. Nazi Germany, the Roman empire, the Russian Federation), hence a more balanced and rational approach is needed to ensure a country’s health. The America Party should moderate the extreme policies of governing parties, resulting in more practical management of the nation.
Likely this new party will far outgrow Musk, like at any of his companies, then steadily gain ground as a rational alternative to mainstream parties. Given sufficient stability, the US should rapidly become a technocratic protopia, all that’s needed is a steady hand on the tiller to navigate the rapids.
